Who doesn't like the thrill of planning a new trip and finally buying your tickets for the flight? Unfortunately, life happens sometimes and you are obliged to change your plans or cancel your ticket.
Anyone who has been through this before knows it can be both difficult and costly to adjust or cancel an airline ticket.
If you booked your flight with JetBlue there are a few things you need to know to help make it as easy as possible. Read on to find out all the details of the JetBlue cancelation policy for JetBlue flights!
Cancelation Policy for JetBlue: Flights paid with cash or PointsAll customers will have to cancel their reservation 24 hours from the time of their original reservation without being charged a JetBlue cancelation fee, irrespective of the selected fare.
There are several fare choices to choose from when booking a JetBlue flight: Blue, Blue Plus, Blue Flex, and Mint. The biggest difference between the 4 is Mint, their premium cabin experience that is flown only on selected routes. The same "Blue fares" are mostly different in terms of point-earning, baggage allowance and associated fees.
So if you buy a $125 Blue Plus ticket and have to change your flight, you'll need to pay a $100 change fee plus the difference in fare if the new flight becomes more expensive. Similarly, if you need to cancel the same flight straight away you will still have to pay the $100 fee to do so.
Any remaining balance will be placed in a JetBlue air-only credit after your flight has been canceled and can be applied to future travel for 1 year from the date it is issued. If you do not show up for your flight and do not change or cancel before the scheduled departure, all money related to the segment will be forfeited.
Unless you booked your flight with TrueBlue tickets, the adjustment or cancelation charge associated with your ticket's cash value will have to be payable. According to JetBlue 24 hour Cancellation policy, if you used
10,000 points to offset a $130 fare but then needed to cancel it, you'd pay a $100 cancelation fee because the fare's cash value would fall between the $100-$149.99 tier. The points you used to buy the fare will then be deposited back into your TrueBlue account after doing so.
Blue Flex TicketsThere is no charge for changing or canceling a Blue Flex booking before departure, only the difference in fare. While JetBlue Blue Flex tariffs are often quite a bit more expensive than Blue, Blue Plus, and sometimes even Mint tariffs, some may find the added flexibility you get very worthwhile.
While there are no additional costs to cancel your trip on a Blue Flex ticket, it is worth keeping in mind that your refund will be given as an air-only credit to JetBlue and may be extended for 1 year from the date it is issued for future voyages.
Refundable ticketsAnother option is to buy a refundable ticket at any of the 4 fare options available. While this option may be significantly more expensive, the added flexibility is that if you need to cancel your flight, your refund will be processed in full to the original payment form, as opposed to receiving future flight credit.
